MAIN STORY: Minouche Shafik has resigned as president of Columbia University just weeks before students are set to return to the Ivy League campus. Shafik, whose sole year in office was marred by criticism for her slow response to rising anti-Semitism on campus, cited the toll the criticism has taken on her and her family. She follows the lead of former University of Pennsylvania President Liz Magill, who resigned last December and former University of Pennsylvania President Liz Magill, who resigned last year. Claudine Gay, President of Harvard Universitywho resigned in January. More recently, Cornell University President Martha Pollack retired on June 30, 2024.
VIDEO: A federal judge has rejected requests by four anti-Israel groups seeking to expand permission to protest at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. The groups wanted to move their protest closer to the United Center, one of two locations For the DNC next week, and across a street that the Secret Service and local police planners have decided to block off during the convention.
ILLUSTRATED WARNING: Anti-Israeli agitators at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill are vowing resistance “by any means necessary” when the 2024-2025 school year officially begins on August 18. An unofficial anti-Israel student group called UNC Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP), which represents Chapel Hill, posted a pledge to “resist by any means necessary” and said it approves of “all forms of principled action” in a July 31 Instagram post.
