Four people were hospitalized after escaping a boat fire that broke out off the coast of Long Beach on Friday night, authorities said.
At 7:11 p.m., Long Beach Fire Department officials received a call about a fire on a 30-foot boat about 100 feet offshore between the Queen Mary and the Maya Hotel, department spokesman Jake said. Heflin.
Units arrived at the scene at 7:15 p.m., Heflin said, and found seven people floating in a boat away from the main ship. The fire was extinguished, he said, and the ship was towed to an isolation dock in Alamitos Bay.
Two people suffered injuries that required “immediate” attention while the other five suffered less significant injuries, Heflin said. He said three refused to be taken to a hospital.
Heflin said it was unclear what type of injuries the victims suffered or what caused the fire.
The boat fire did not damage any other structures or vessels in the area, he said.
