Former Hillary Clinton campaign spokeswoman Karen Finney criticized the Democratic Party for acting so afraid of losing the presidential election, saying it could be a self-fulfilling prophecy in November.

Finney, also a CNN commentator, warned a CNN panel Wednesday morning that voters will sense this fear and be less inclined to vote for Democratic candidates.

“Voters see us as losers,” Finney lamented.

The former Clinton campaign official made the remarks as he discussed new polls showing President Biden trailing former President Trump in several states crucial to winning the presidency in November.

He first noted that this election cycle was going to be a challenge no matter what, saying, “Look, it was always going to be a tough card for Democrats.”

Finney then warned that his party has a defeatist attitude in addition to the tough fight ahead.

“One of the things I think, though, is that we're in a cycle where Democrats are becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy,” he said, adding: “The more we talk about how scared we are of losing instead of how we're going to win, the more voters see us as losers.”

The commentator went on to say: “If you don't believe in yourself that you can win, voters are saying, 'Well, then why should I vote for you?'”

Finney urged his party to realize that trust is key, adding, “I keep telling my Democrats that they have to believe they can win to even get on the board and try to win.”

The latest poll numbers reinforce fears among many Democrats that Biden is not a strong enough candidate to beat Trump in the election, especially after his disastrous performance in last month's debate.

Following the debate, prominent party lawmakers including Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) reportedly warned that Biden cannot win reelection and have been pressuring the party to find a new nominee.

Unlike many others in the party, President Biden and his campaign have sought to project confidence that he remains the best candidate to beat Trump, and continue to reject calls for him to be replaced as the nominee.

During a recent NBC News interview with anchor Lester Holt, the president reminded viewers that he won the primary process and is therefore the right man to run for president.

“14 million people voted for me as the nominee of the Democratic Party, OK?” Biden told NBC's Lester Holt during his one-on-one interview at the White House. “I hear you.”
