Focus group reacts to Biden-Trump debate

Democrats reacted wholeheartedly favorably to President Biden's comments on how he wants to address the economy, according to a focus group that offered their approval in real time during Thursday's presidential debate, according to a Fox News Digital focus group.

The group of Republicans, Democrats and Independents used dials to react live to the start of the debate where Biden argued that his economic record was no worse than that of former President Trump.

“Let's look at what I was left with when I took office. What Mr. Trump left me,” Biden said. “We had an economy that was in free fall. The pandemic was handled very poorly. A lot of people were dying.”

“The economy collapsed. There were no jobs. The unemployment rate rose to 15%,” Biden added. “We're in a situation where, if you look at everything that was done during his administration, he didn't do much at all. When he left, things were a mess.”

Democrats in the focus group agreed with the president, unlike Republicans and independents, who went in the complete opposite direction.

Republicans in the discussion group almost unanimously disagreed with Biden's view of Trump's economy.

During the debate, both men argued about inflation, and Biden said Trump's economy was so bad that there was no room for price increases that many Americans have had to live with in recent years.

Democrats also echoed Biden's criticism of Trump's handling of the COVID-19 pandemic. Approval among Republicans and independents was trending downward.

Independents, however, seemed to agree to some extent when Biden said he wanted to limit “corporate greed” to drive down prices for basic goods like gasoline, food, prescription drugs and housing.

“There is more to do,” he said. “Working class people are still in trouble. The combination I was left with and corporations is the reason we are in this trouble right now.”
