A confrontation at a bus stop between two high school students in Florida took an unexpected turn when the mother of one of the students allegedly decided to join the fight.
According to the Flagler County Sheriff's Office, deputies were called to a bus stop in Daytona North, Florida, on Aug. 15 after disputes over friendships from the summer months spilled over into the school year.
At the bus stop, two teenagers got off the bus and agreed to fight each other, officers said.
The fight, which was captured on video and shared by the sheriff's office, showed the moment the fight took an unexpected turn when one of the mothers got involved.

In the video, Kathryn Stephanopoulos, 34, jumps into the altercation and at one point had a boy in a headlock.
“Hey, not mom!” a student can be heard saying in the video.
During the confrontation, police said, Stephanopoulos' daughter started a second fight with another boy who tried to break up the fight with fists.
After the fight ended, the minor began arguing with Stephanopoulos and then brandished a metal cup, hitting the woman in the face.
“Did he just hit her with a Stanley cup?” one student asked in the cellphone video.

“Yes, he did,” another student replied.
“That's crazy!” said the first student.
On Monday, Stephanopoulos was arrested and taken to the Sheriff's Perry Hall Inmate Detention Center for her role in the fight, police said. One juvenile was arrested for aggravated assault, while misdemeanor charges against the other juvenile were referred to the state attorney's office.

“Instead of calming the situation, we have a mother who joined the fight, setting a bad example for her son and those at the bus stop,” said Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly. “She certainly won't receive the Mother of the Year award for her actions.”
“Parents should lead by example and not be part of the problem,” he said. “Fortunately, no one was seriously injured, but now a mother faces serious charges for losing control of her temper.”
