Federal authorities investigate plane crash near Chino airport

A small plane carrying two people crashed shortly after leaving Chino Airport around 12:35 Saturday, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

The plane was a twin-engine Lockheed 12A, FAA spokeswoman Mina Kaji said. The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating, Kaji said.

A spokesperson for the Chino Valley Fire District said two people died in the crash, ABC7 reported. There were no other people aboard the World War II plane and those who died have not been identified.

A witness told the television station that the two men who were killed were part of a Father's Day event at the Yanks Air Museum.

An NTSB spokesman said Saturday that an investigator is expected to arrive at the scene on Sunday to begin documenting the scene and examining the aircraft. The remains will then be recovered and taken to a secure facility for further evaluation.

This is a developing story.
