F1 star Lewis Hamilton admits he was worried before 'Hot Ones' came out: 'How can I get out of this?'

Seven-time Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton broke a sweat during his highly anticipated appearance on “Hot Ones,” a popular web series where celebrities are interviewed while eating hotter wings.

Hamilton contemplated skipping his appearance on “Hot Ones” entirely, citing his unease about the spice challenge. The Formula One driver even considered backing out of his engagement while he headed to the studio.

“Even on the way here I honestly thought, 'How do I get out of this?'” Hamilton admitted.

But Hamilton also noted that his busy schedule also played a role before the appearance.

“A part of this was programming [conflicts]but most of it was like, 'I don't know if I can do it,'” he said.

The British pilot seemed relatively unfazed by the first wings, but was noticeably surprised by the spicy taste of the fifth wing.

“Holy shit, it's hard to talk,” Hamilton said.

The sixth wing was covered in “Da Bomb Beyond Insanity” sauce, which the driver seemed to have trouble with.

But Hamilton eventually made it through the interview and, toward the end, seemed ready to take another swing at the sauce.

“It hurts when I breathe… Shall we go in again? We should just send it away,” he said.

At one point during the meeting, Hamilton mentioned the harrowing experience he had while surfing with 11-time World Surf League champion Kelly Slater.

“They were 20-foot waves and Kelly said, 'There's no way you're getting out there,'” Hamilton said.

“As I started trying to paddle out, I was sucked into the death zone. I turn around and see this set of four waves coming. [I thought], 'It's over. It's over.'”

Hamilton said his surfboard was ripped away from him and he almost drowned.

“I could hear this wave breaking over me,” he recalled. “My board ripped off and broke in half. I went back up gasping for air, but the next one was coming. So I went back down… I almost ran out of air. I almost drowned.”

In February, Hamilton revealed his intentions to switch from Mercedes-AMG Petronas to Scuderia Ferrari at the end of the 2024 season. Hamilton's seven championships have been with Mercedes.
