Eric Roberts' “Dancing with the Stars” debut Tuesday night provided a rare glimpse into the world of one of the most credentialed actors in the industry.
The “Runaway Train” star's latest TV gig appeared to be another step for Roberts to right past wrongs, many of which she detailed in her new memoir, “Runaway Train: Or the Story of My Life So Far.”
In the book, Roberts offered her sister, Oscar winner Julia Roberts, a “public apology” for words she once said about her famous family.

The “Righteous Gemstones” star made headlines in 2018 when she took responsibility for her sister's award-winning career, as well as her daughter Emma Roberts' status in Hollywood.
“If it weren't for me, there would be no Julia Roberts and no Emma Roberts as celebrities, as actresses, and I'm very proud of that,” he told Vanity Fair.

Roberts retracted that statement and offered an olive branch to the “Pretty Woman” star nearly six years later.
“I hope Julia accepts this public apology. It was a stupid thing to say,” he wrote, according to People magazine..
His history of film and television roles is almost as extensive as his reputation when the cameras weren't rolling.
“I hope Julia accepts this public apology. It was stupid of her to say that.”

In 1981, Roberts was involved in a car accident and was in a coma for three days. The accident and years of drug abuse as a cocaine addict took a toll on his mind and body, as well as his personal relationships.
“I wouldn't be surprised if they suffered from PTSD from the fact that I was dangerous to be around,” she admitted in the book about her bond with her sisters. “Lisa and Julia needed love and protection, but instead they received fear and uncertainty.”
“Of course, the biggest consequence of my drug use was losing Emma.”
Roberts was in the depths of her addiction when she claimed Julia supported her ex, Kim Cunningham, in a custody battle over Emma.

“I imagine I'll remain Julia's brother and Emma Roberts' father for the rest of my life,” he wrote. “I'd like to honor my word, to step aside with pride and grace. That's one of the reasons I wrote the book.”
