No matter what the verdict in Trump's hush money trial, the political consequences for Democrats will be painful. They find themselves in a lose-lose scenario that they themselves have created.

Quick: What did Donald Trump do in New York to justify a jury trial? Almost no one can articulate it, but is it somehow worthy of prosecuting a former president in an election year?

Regardless of the verdict, Democrats will be giddy thinking they reinforced their argument that Trump can't be trusted. They will be wrong.

Of course, it is inevitable that Republicans will be offended, outraged and excited. Justly. But the rest of America – the ones who will make the biggest difference in the swing states on Election Day – understand that this is a banana republic-style legal war.

JURY BEGINS DELIBERING IN NY V. TRUMP TRIAL AS FORMER PRESIDENT HIGHLIGHTS 'HANDLING' CHARGES

The rest of America rightly wonders why Democrats can only talk about Trump instead of issues they care about. Inflation, the economy, your credit card debt, $20 cheeseburgers, a secure border, safety in your neighborhoods, energy costs, housing prices, and raging wars around the world. They play a supporting role in this disaster of a show trial.

President Biden and his team tell us he is fit for another four years in the world's most important and powerful job. They say he doesn't believe in polls. Reducing the bank fee from $40 to $8 when a check is dishonored was a huge accomplishment. Its eight new electric vehicle charging stations are solving climate change. The border is secure (but you can't fix it with Executive Order #96). Donald Trump is evil. Nobody buys it anymore.

Regardless of the trial verdict, Biden's playbook is set. Without substantial political victories, he has resorted to scare tactics suggesting we need to save democracy by defeating an evil Donald Trump.

The problem is that they have not updated their manual during the last three elections. People have heard it all before. And it doesn't match the results they saw in the Trump administration. You know what you get with it. Bad tweets, of course. But also low inflation, low unemployment for low-income and minority populations, peace through strength, and much better border security.

Regardless of the trial verdict, Biden's playbook is set. Without substantial political victories, he has resorted to scare tactics suggesting we need to save democracy by defeating an evil Donald Trump.

People remember that life was good when Trump was president. Life is not so good with a bumbling Biden. No amount of enlightenment by administration economists can change that.

Since Donald Trump came down the golden escalator in June 2015, Democrats, many Republicans, and Washington, DC's political elite have understood the threat. They loved Trump, as long as he stayed in New York, Hollywood or played golf in Florida.

But he went to DC and was a threat. He didn't need DC's adulation or campaign donations from him. Trump wouldn't get Potomac fever and they knew it. He was going to be a disruptive force. The United States loved it. They certainly trusted him more than Hillary Clinton.

Never mind that Trump was an international celebrity, someone everyone wanted at their parties and events. He was the star of NBC television's “The Apprentice.” He was rich, successful, famous and married to an exceptionally beautiful wife. He was not the ticket for the DC power brokers who spend more than 20 percent of our GDP.

Since Trump officially entered the political scene, the mainstream media and Democrats (with some help from so-called Republicans) have tried to paint Trump with broad brushstrokes. Corruption, sleaze, nefarious intentions: they painted him as a monster who would blow up the world if he had the chance. Those tweets were very bad.

No matter the verdict, the problem for Democrats is the same. They have been saying the same thing about Trump for nine years. However, his Russia deception was exposed, the economy soared under Trump, the United States was negotiating international peace in the Middle East, borders were closing, and inflation was always below 3 percent.

Americans are exceptionally fair. They believe in justice for all. The unequal application of justice arouses visceral disgust. With an acquittal, they have to answer why they campaigned to prosecute Trump. With a hung jury, they are exposed for presenting a weak case against the leading candidate for president in an election year. And if they are guilty, can they even answer what Trump was convicted of?

In all scenarios, Democrats lose in the court of public opinion.
