Users of social networks are noticed that do not fall in love with a false online advertisement that is passed through the California Motorized Vehicle Department and offers registration renewal services at a discount price.
Residents reported having seen deceptive ads on social networks that claim to renew a vehicle record with a 50%discount, the DMV said Wednesday.
Verification of facts: The state law prohibits the DMV from offering discount vehicle registration renovations.
The deceptive announcement requests personal information, including its full name, registration number and the last five digits of the vehicle registration number.
To take advantage of the alleged service, you are asked to pay through the CASH application of Transaction Service of peers.
Verification of facts: The DMV will never request personal or payment information through unofficial channels such as social media sites and transaction applications.

“The safest way to renew the registration of your vehicle is directly through the official DMV website,” said DMV director Steve Gordon in a statement.
The DMV advises that you take these measures to avoid this recent scam:
- Avoid committing to any DMV service offer with discount. The DMV does not offer special offers through unauthorized third parties or on social networks.
- Never respond to unpaid or suspicious messages. If you receive a direct message requesting personal or financial information, do not respond.
- Verify the source of publication, message or advertising. If you are not sure of the legitimacy of an online publication, you can communicate with the DMV by calling (800) 777-0133.
