Critically wounded woman in the explosion of residential fireworks of Pacoima

Amid the explosive fireworks, more than 130 firefighters fought against a fire that wrapped four houses in Pacoima and critically wounded a woman on Thursday night, authorities said.

The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to three burning houses of an apartment in the 12933 W. Corcoran St. area around 9 pm, the fireworks exploded when they arrived, exposing surrounding houses and brush to the danger of ignition.

Fire teams began to attack the fire in a defensive mode, parked from a safe distance to prioritize the safety of the crew of the possibility of additional explosions, according to the LAFD.

At 9:30 pm, the fire department declared that the fire was a “great emergency” and said that a 33 -year -old woman was transported to a hospital in critical condition. An injured dog was also taken to an emergency veterinary hospital.

Fire teams knocked down the fire at 10 pm, at which time it had spread to a fourth house and a car, according to the fire department. According to reports, several animals were injured in the fire, and a 68 -year -old woman rejected transport to a hospital for smoke inhalation injuries.

A gas company was requested to respond to a gas leak in one of the houses, while the Los Angeles Water and Energy Department was requested to manage the fallen cables along the three initial houses that caught fire, according to the LAFD.

The fire teams and Hazat of the Fire Department were sent to the incident, as well as the Bombs team of the Los Angeles Police Department. The mayor's crisis team was sent to the extinguished fire to provide advice and resources to the affected residents.

Animal control that responded to the incident was requested. The Red Cross and the Los Angeles Construction and Security Department are also being used to help in the sequelae of the fire.

The fireworks explosions were among several similar incidents reported throughout the state in the period prior to July 4.

A detonation on Thursday morning killed a person in a house in Simi Valley, and a similar incident critically wounded two people in a residence in the Bay area where officials suspected fireworks.

In addition, seven workers remain missing after a mass explosion wrapped a warehouse containing fireworks in Esparto, a rural area on the outskirts of Sacramento, Tuesday night.

The LAFD published messages earlier this week reminding residents that all fireworks are illegal in the city of Los Angeles and urge people to refrain from organizing exhibitions of personal fireworks to celebrate holidays.

“If you are storing or considering using fireworks this weekend, we beg you to reconsider and attend a professional show,” the apartment published in X after the fire on Thursday night in Pacoima. “The most immediate way of making their fireworks inert is to soak them in the water. Please advance and take care of their loved ones, pets and neighbors.”
