Nearly three years after filing for divorce from her husband Jay Barker, who was arrested months later for allegedly trying to run her over with his truck, Sara Evans has revealed that the two are back together.
During the first episode of her new podcast, “Diving in Deep with Sara Evans,” the country star opened up about her tumultuous past relationship with her husband of fifteen years, the events leading up to his arrest, and how the two managed to rekindle their romance. .
“What scares me today [is] say something I might regret or say something that might embarrass my kids or upset my family,” Evans said before diving into the “question on everyone's mind.”
“A lot of women will judge me and want to judge me… We are very happy now, but I don't want anyone to think that I am advocating staying in a relationship that you are always in, in your gut.” “You know you need to get out of the situation,” she said. “Every woman needs to follow her instincts on the matter and do what is best for her. I believe and hope to have done so.”

Evans, who initially split from Barker in 2020 after a “really bad fight that was preceded by a lot of bad fights,” said her husband became “addicted to being her boss.” “It was a one-sided, volatile relationship with a lot of passion,” added Evans, who admitted that they were “abusing” her marriage.
In January 2022, the duo met for lunch, but things took a turn for the worse when Barker “didn't get his way.”
“He wanted me to be the usual Sara and do whatever he wanted… He got very angry,” she recalled.
Later that night, Evans, who went to a bonfire at a neighbor's house with one of her daughters, said Barker was “texting her all night” blaming her for “breaking up the family.”

“It really scared me and it scared all of us, especially my son who was with me,” he said on the podcast. “So a friend of ours was giving me a ride. We were getting ready to pull into the driveway, and… he got into a verbal altercation with my son, who had never seen that side of him, ever. And it scared the f— – outside her.”
“Then he got into his truck and [was] sort of going backwards at a very high speed. I knew Jay, so I didn't feel the same way my son felt. My daughter thought she was going to knock down our car, that she was backing into our car and that she was about to witness something horrible, or at least, an accident, which would have been her truck hitting my side of the road. road. car, where I was in the front seat. Evans' daughter called 911 immediately before Barker sped away.
“My daughter was more upset than I was because she had had these experiences privately with Jay for fourteen years. For her it was the first time she had seen her father like this,” she said.

Eventually, Barker returned to the home and was arrested at the scene.
“I felt so embarrassed and so stupid, and my son was so angry,” she said.
Evans said he thought this was the “end of his marriage” to Barker and that it “couldn't work.”

“I got call after call and I thought, 'I can't believe this is happening to me and my kids again. I've lost the love of my life,'” she said. “To me, he's just beautiful, funny, we have a lot in common. We feel the same about everything, parenting, family structures, politics, religion, everything. We just love each other. We're best friends.”

A few months later, Barker approached Evans via text message and the duo slowly began to rekindle their relationship under a couple of conditions: The two attend marriage counseling and therapy “for the rest” of their lives.
“I just didn't want to get divorced again and start over,” she said. “I just imagined being alone and missing him and thinking, 'We could have tried harder.' But I think I had to file for divorce for him to realize, 'Oh, shit, he's serious. This is it.'”

“Some people have marriage problems that they say they fight all the time. We don't fight all the time. He fought with me.
