Clearwater Ferry hit Morial Causeway in Florida


The first to respond in Clearwater, Florida, declared a “incident of mass victims” on Sunday night after a recreational ferry that transported dozens of passengers was beaten by a boat, which fled the scene.

The Clearwater Police Department said Ferry Clearwater had more than 40 people on board when it was hit by another boat near the causeway bridge. The exact number of injuries is not clear, but the police said that all injuries came from passengers in the ferry.

The city of Clearwater said that six patients were declared “trauma alerts.” Police described two of them as “seriously injured” and said they were taken to local hospitals by helicopter.

At 10:30 pm local time, the lifeguards had eliminated all the patients and passengers of the ferry.

“It is not believed that anyone has been reported to miss the ferry,” said Clearwater City in X.

“The Fire Department has declared an incident of massive victims due to the amount of injuries. All local hospitals have been notified. Multiple trauma alerts with helicopters have been called two of the most seriously injured. Drivers should avoid commemorative road,” said Clearwater police in X.

After it was beaten, the police said the ferry rested in a sand bank south of the bridge.

The details in the boat they fled after hitting the ferry are not yet available.
