Chris Stapleton fans have confused him with members of a classic rock band: 'No, it's not me'

Chris Stapleton is happy that fans are reaching out, even if it's unclear who they think they're reaching out to.

In a recent appearance on “The Jennifer Hudson Show,” Stapleton and host Jennifer Hudson bonded over being mistaken for other celebrities, and the former “American Idol” contestant revealed that she is often misidentified as Coco Jones or Megan the Stallion.

“I know Jamey Johnson a lot,” Stapleton told Hudson. “He and I used to joke with each other, like, 'Hey, does anyone think you were me today?' every time we saw each other. It's happened to a lot of me in Nashville in particular with people who are fans of his who are also fans of mine.

The singer then went into detail about being recognized as someone else when he attended his first Grammy Awards.

It was a bluegrass band. Nobody knew who we were at the time. And he went on and on. I was like, 'Man, you don't even know who I'm, right? He says, 'Yeah, you're on Lynyrd Skynyrd!'”

He continued: “I was like, 'No. No, it's not me, but thank you!'”

Overall, the “Higher” singer explained that he's always had positive experiences interacting with fans, but he said it doesn't happen too often. He told Hudson that if he leaves home without his trademark cowboy hat, he will be less likely to be recognized.

When Stapleton suggested that people not approach him because he seems “a little mean,” Hudson and the studio audience objected, to which Stapleton responded, “I don't seem friendly, how about that?”
