CHP officers kill a man in Riverside County who allegedly threw rocks into the cars

California road patrol officers shot and killed a man in San Jacinto on Monday after he allegedly threw rocks into the cars in motion, the agency said in a statement.

Around 4:48 pm on Monday, CHP officers responded to “reports of a male subject who throws rocks towards vehicles that are approaching” near Gilman Springs Road east of the state route 79, according to the statement.

The suspect then threw rocks to the officers, who tried to use “verbal commands and force options” to submit it, Chp said. The suspect continued advancing towards the officers, who then shot him, according to Chp.

The officers had the option of using Tasers or Bean Bols before firing, said CHP spokesman Jonathan Torres, but it was not clear that it was used in this situation. No weapon was found on the scene, he said.

The officers gave medical assistance to the suspect until emergency personnel could take care, according to CHP. Cal Fire then pronounced the dead man on the scene.

The officers were not injured, and the shooting is under investigation by the investigation detail of the Riverside County Force, according to the statement.

CHP encouraged those with information to contact Torres at (951) 846-5300 or after schedule at (916) 407-7511.
