An unauthorized vehicle crashed into the exterior gate of the White House complex on Monday afternoon and one person is in custody.

U.S. Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said the vehicle collided with the exterior gate around 6 p.m.

The Secret Service says a driver was arrested after a car crashed into a gate outside the White House. (FOX 5DC)

The driver was arrested and the USSS is investigating the cause and manner of the accident, Guglielmi said.

He added that traffic would be affected at 15th Street and Pennsylvania, as well as adjacent intersections.

Drivers were asked to find alternative routes. DC Fire and EMS responded to the scene to assist authorities with the investigation, FOX 5 reported.
