California DMV opens early for those who need real identification

The California Motorized Vehicle Department is opening some offices one hour before this spring to help people who have not yet obtained a real identification before the May deadline.

On May 7, people who address national flights or enter the federal facilities insured, such as courts, must have a real identification, a passport or other Federal Document approved.

As of Monday, the 18 DMV offices will open at 7 am on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday to June 27. The early extra hour is only reserved for people with appointments to obtain real identification.

The authorities said that the Californians who wish to update their driver's license to a real identification, but that they already have an American passport or other document approved by the federal government can wait until their license are renewed.

The Congress approved the Royal ID Law in 2005 to improve security and minimize fraud after the terrorist attacks of September 11. Federal officials have repeatedly delayed the date on which travelers need the new identification card that meets the federal government.

To request real identification, Californians must complete the online application in Realid.dmv.ca.gov and load the required documents. Then they must visit a DMV office, bringing the documents loaded to complete the application.

The required documents include a valid passport or a birth certificate to prove the identity, as well as those that prove the California residence, as a draft public services law or a bank extract. A Social Security number is also needed.

The DMV charges a $ 45 rate for a real identification driver's license.

The early hour is not available on Wednesday when DMV offices are open from 9 am to 5 pm
