Caitlin Clark swings in the batting cage during a minor league baseball game: 'Dinger!'


Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark walked off the field and into the batting cage on Thursday.

Clark was wearing an Indianapolis Indians jersey (the Pittsburgh Pirates' Triple-A minor league baseball affiliate) and was in the ballpark's cage. He was batting from a batting cage.

“I could go anywhere,” he said as he stepped into the batter's box.

She connected with the ball and it went to the other end of the cage.

“Dinger!” he said after grabbing his bike.

Clark is about to conclude the first professional regular season of her WNBA career, a fairly successful season at that.

The Fever are back in the playoffs for the first time since the 2016 season, when Tamika Catchings led the charge. Indiana's 19 wins so far this year are also the most since the team had 20 wins during the 2015 season.

A lot of it has to do with Clark and how she's meshed offensively with last year's Rookie of the Year Aliyah Boston and veteran point guard Kelsey Mitchell.

Since the Olympic break, the Fever have hit the ground running and shown how much they were able to connect during the month off. The team led by Christie Sides has an 8-3 record since returning to the court on August 16.

Indiana has three games left in the year, including one on Friday night against the Las Vegas Aces. The Fever conclude their home schedule on Sunday against the Dallas Wings and finish the 2024 season in Washington, D.C., against the Washington Mystics.
