Bronny James to miss Summer League game against Warriors with knee injury

After struggling in his Summer League debut, Los Angeles Lakers second-round draft pick Bronny James sat out the team's next game due to knee swelling.

Lakers reporter Mike Trudell posted on X that James is dealing with “mild swelling” in his left knee and was unable to play in back-to-back games against the Golden State Warriors for precautionary reasons.

However, Lakers fans shouldn't wait long to see James back on the court, as he is expected to play in the final game of the California Classic on Wednesday against the Miami Heat.

James, selected by the Lakers with the 55th pick in this year's NBA draft, started his first professional game on Saturday night. However, he didn't have the best performance in a 108-94 loss to the Sacramento Kings.

James shot just 2 of 9 for four points, two rebounds and two assists in 22 minutes on the court. He missed all three of his three-point shots and failed to make either of his two free throws.

On defense, James recorded his first steal of the Summer League, although he registered a minus-15 when he was on the court.

Dalton Knecht, the Lakers' first-round pick out of Tennessee, also struggled for Los Angeles. He made 3 of 12 free throws but 5 of 9 free throws, allowing him to total 12 points in 26 minutes.

The Lakers' best player came off the bench as forward Blake Hinson scored 17 points after hitting 5 of 7 of his three-pointers and making both of his free throws.

This is just one game for young James, son of superstar LeBron James, who is in Las Vegas preparing for the Paris Olympics with his U.S. team.

James noted during his introductory press conference that he didn't get “much of a chance” to “show what I can really do” during his freshman season at USC. He averaged fewer than five points per game after starting his college career late due to a cardiac arrest he suffered while working out with the team in July.

James underwent surgery to repair a congenital heart defect.

Now, James is looking to silence the naysayers and skeptics who didn't think he should have been drafted this year. These games are all about development, and according to ESPN, James is expected to spend most of the year in the G League with the South Bay Lakers.
