Bill Maher called on comedian Louis CK to be allowed to return to mainstream entertainment following his sexual misconduct scandal during the height of the #MeToo movement.

“Isn't it time for everyone to say, 'Okay, it wasn't a nice thing to do, but it's long enough and welcome back.'” “Enough!” Maher said in a new episode of her podcast, “Club Random.”

“I mean, for God's sake, it's not the end of the world,” Maher told comedian Bill Burr in a conversation about cancel culture.

“People have done much worse things and gotten less,” Maher told Burr. “There is no rhyme or reason to #MeToo-type punishments.”

Luis CK admitted accusations of sexual misconduct in 2017 after five women claimed he masturbated in front of them without their consent.

Despite his fall from grace at the time and Maher's complaints, CK returned to the spotlight for win a Grammy award in 2022 for his album “Sincerely Louis CK” and has since returned to the stand-up circuit.

“They took $50 million, I think they punished him,” Burr said of CK.

Burr also argued that cancel culture was no longer a relevant cultural force.

“It started with something that everyone agreed on, and then it quickly emerged from [control]”Burr said of the beginnings of cancel culture.

“I remember every time cancel culture got to the point where it was like, 'I don't like some of the topics in your stand-up act,' right? That's when it got weird,” he said.

But Burr declared that cancel culture was “over” and that “nobody cares anymore.”

“That's not true,” Maher said. “Any one of us could be canceled in the next two minutes.”

Maher has spoken out against cancel culture several times throughout his career.

In 2023, Maher said he had lost many “super woke” fans who disagreed with his political views. While he is progressive, Maher often mocks what he considers the excesses of the left.

“Don't let the door hit you in the ass,” the comedian said. “You weren't funny to begin with. You have a terrible sense of humor.”
