Biden 'can't have a high-profile moment' in debate or risk losing his own supporters, MSNBC analyst warns

MSNBC political analyst Elise Jordan warned that President Biden doesn't have the luxury of having a “major moment” in next week's presidential debate against former President Trump.

Jordan cited several Democratic voters he recently spoke to on MSNBC's “Morning Joe” on Friday, saying they are more concerned about Biden being “up to the task” during the showdown.

“He absolutely cannot have a high-profile moment in this debate,” the analyst declared, noting that Biden's age is the main concern among his own voters.

Liberal voters' concerns about Biden's age emerged as the MSNBC panel, which included Jordan, host Jonathan Lemire and columnist Eugene Robinson, discussed the finalized rules and format for the upcoming 90-minute debate hosted by CNN. on June 27.

After the panel discussed the coin toss that resulted in Biden choosing which podium he would debate from and Trump receiving the final statement at the showdown, as well as going over other details, Jordan weighed in with what Democratic voters in Wisconsin and Michigan They told him they wanted to see the debate.

“Well, the Biden campaign needs to establish from the beginning the narrative that Biden is competent and capable of leading in the future,” the expert said, following up with her comment about the “senior moment.”

“I was in Wisconsin and Michigan two weeks ago for a lot of focus groups, and what I'm hearing from voters, Democrats who support Biden, is that they're going to be watching and they want to make sure he's up to the task.” , he added.

He said Democrats he spoke to probably still plan to support him, but are uncomfortable with his age.

“And it really is a burden hanging over this candidate and his campaign,” Jordan said.

During a recent appearance on CNN, network commentator Van Jones also emphasized that Biden needs to prove himself in this debate, or “it's game over.”

“This is the whole election, as far as I'm concerned. The whole world will be watching,” Jones told CNN host Jim Acosta on Thursday. “If you are a carbon-based life form, you will be watching. If you have a functioning brain stem, you will be watching.”

“Because if Biden comes out and makes a mistake, the game is over. If he comes out and a week later he is lower in the polls, there will be panic in the party,” he continued. “But if he goes in there and can take on Donald Trump – a runaway train, a locomotive, a raging bull – then this guy deserves another chance to be president, because that's hard.”
