A 6-year-old New Jersey girl died from head trauma caused by a freak accident with a badminton racket on the last day of a family vacation with her parents and three siblings.
Lucy Morgan and her family were enjoying their time in Limerick, Maine, before tragedy struck on their last full day there, according to the girl's father, Jesse Morgan, pastor of Green Pond Bible Chapel in Rockaway, New Jersey.
“We had an amazing lake cabin in Maine and were just enjoying life together on our last full day here. We were having a quick lunch by the lake and the kids decided to try badminton on the front lawn,” Jesse wrote on her blog. Life of the New Creation.
“Bethany and I were relaxing in the back when we heard screaming,” he said.

Lucy received an unexpected blow when the handle of the racket her 10-year-old brother was using broke and flew into her skull.
“Due to a freak accident with a racket that broke when hit downwards, a sharp piece entered Lucy's skull while she was sitting on the bench and caused a catastrophic injury,” Jesse wrote. “She was still breathing but unresponsive as she held her with Bethany crying out to God.”
Lucy was taken to a local hospital before being transferred to a hospital in Portland, Maine.
Her father documented the hardships as the family cried out to God for a miracle for their young daughter's life.

On the second day of Lucy's hospital stay, Jesse and his wife, Bethany, shared the gravity of Lucy's life with her three siblings.
“We broke the news as kindly as we could, but that's a conversation you never want to have with a 4, 8, and 10 year old,” she wrote.
As doctors evaluated and re-evaluated Lucy's health, her three brothers showed their compassion by gently holding their sister's hand, kissing it, and creating works of art in her honor.
“From Shiloh's creativity and sweet care to Silas' kisses and hugs, each of them are taught to understand their limits and make the choice to grieve as best they can,” Jesse wrote. “Whether it's approaching her bed to hold her hand or talking to her, or waiting while they work something out before slowly entering, everything is welcome.”
Four days after the accident, Lucy succumbed to her injury.
“After extensive and even more repeated testing to be sure, he was declared brain dead at 1:32 a.m. on June 5 and his heart stopped beating around 4 a.m.,” Jesse wrote.

The parents clung to the hope that Lucy would “believe in the death and resurrection of Jesus.”

“Four weeks ago she asked Bethany how to be with God and be saved,” Jesse wrote. “Bethany explained it to her and offered to pray with her, but 'Miss Independent' wanted to do it herself. She went to her room and prayed to God to forgive her and believe in the death and resurrection of Jesus.”
“What a gift,” he said.
Jesse wrote that he and his wife felt comforted after finding her “prayer journal,” and said it felt “like God was writing with her.”

“It's almost as if God is writing with her, drawing her to Himself,” Jesse wrote. “I don't understand how a six-year-old keeps journals like this. After that, she seemed to suffer from writing block and just drew beautiful pictures of Bible stories and hearts.”
“Bless you on your journey,” Jesse concluded in the blog posts. “He will hold you tight.”
