Dozens of young people were arrested on Saturday night in Carson, California, amid a large riot at a shopping center.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department responded to reports of a large gathering of about 200 youths at the SouthBay Pavilion Mall around 5:20 p.m., the department wrote on social media.
During the gathering, the youths set fire to a trash can and set off illegal fireworks inside a store at the mall, according to the sheriff's department. It's unclear what sparked the gathering.

Officers gave orders to disperse, but the teens refused to comply, the sheriff's department said. Other law enforcement agencies were called in to assist, as the teens were disrupting commerce and endangering shoppers.
The mall was forced to close in response to the gathering, KTLA reported.
According to the outlet, between 60 and 70 youths were arrested and fined in connection with the incident. Law enforcement spent about five hours at the mall while the teens were being detained.

The detained minors are due to appear in court at a future date, the sheriff's department wrote on social media.
No injuries have been reported in connection with the incident.
There were also no reports of theft at stores inside the mall, KTLA reported.
