After going missing from a campground in the Sierra National Forest, a 4-year-old Torrance boy was found by a search and rescue group a day later and reunited with his parents, authorities said.
The boy's family reported him missing around 11 a.m. Thursday near the Rancheria Campground, a site that sits along Huntington Lake and is surrounded by the dense pine and spruce forest of the Kaiser Wilderness, north of Fresno.
A 50-person search and rescue team, including Fresno County sheriff's deputies, game wardens and volunteers, launched an extensive search for the missing boy, who was last seen wearing shorts and a T-shirt, authorities said.
Around 8 a.m. Friday, about 22 hours after he went missing, the boy was discovered in good condition about a quarter mile from the camp.
In a Facebook post, the Fresno County Sheriff's Office announced that authorities had located the boy “in good condition,” noting that he was “just tired and hungry.” The boy has since been reunited with his parents.
Authorities credited the collaboration of several law enforcement agencies and community members in finding the boy.
“This was an incredible display of teamwork and dedication,” a post from the Fresno County Sheriff's Office read.
“Many people offered to help join the search, kept their eyes peeled, spread the word on social media and sent prayers. All this undoubtedly contributed to bringing closer [him] return home safe and sound.”
