The New York Jets had a glaring hole on their mandatory minicamp roster as quarterback Aaron Rodgers was not present before the team took its summer offseason ahead of training camp.
Jets coach Robert Saleh said Rodgers let the team know he wouldn't be attending minicamp, but it was still considered an unexcused absence.
Well, according to SNY TV, that absence was a pre-planned trip to Egypt.

SNY added that Rodgers had planned the trip during his recovery from his Achilles injury.
The report goes on to say that the Jets were informed of Rodgers’ trip when the minicamp dates for June 11-12 were announced. However, despite the unexcused absence, SNY reported that the Jets are not worried about it affecting Rodgers heading into camp.
Rodgers was not absent from the Jets' entire preseason training program, as he was present for Phase 1 of the team's voluntary workouts. While he missed a week of Phase 2, Rodgers was present for all organized team activities.

Even though Rodgers was there with his Jets teammates during the offseason, some criticized his absence from the mandatory minicamp, including legendary New England Patriot Julian Edelman.
“I think it's a bad look for your leader to, for whatever reason, go and miss a meeting without an excuse,” Edelman said.
“I was with Tom Brady in his 25th or 23rd year, and he started missing organized team activities here and there, but he never missed a mandatory minicamp. I just thought it was a bad look.”
At the time, no one knew what Rodgers' journey was, but given his public acknowledgement of various retreats and ayahuasca use, fans and sports personalities alike were making their guesses.
However, Saleh and general manager Joe Douglas didn't have many qualms about the absence, especially considering Rodgers showed up all summer to work out with his team.
Rodgers' debut with the Jets last season was a roller coaster ride, as the sold-out MetLife Stadium was turned into a frenzy by him running around the turf with an American flag on “Monday Night Football.” Just four plays into his first series, however, Rodgers tore his Achilles tendon, ending his season just as it was getting started.
The Jets have seen Rodgers recover nicely since that moment last September, and are confident he will be ready for Week 1.

Meanwhile, the Jets appear to be more concerned about Haason Reddick, the defender they acquired in an offseason trade who remains sidelined due to a contract dispute.
