Of course, Hunter Biden was guilty. It only took three hours for a jury in Delaware, where the family name is golden, to resolve it.

His defense was frankly absurd. Biden was a drug addict (he kindly wrote and recorded a book about it), then his lawyer argued that he didn't do drugs on the day, week, or alternate Tuesday he bought a gun, so he didn't intend to lie on the ground . federal form.

The result: guilty of all three serious crimes.

The only real mystery is why Hunter didn't plead guilty and spare his father the personal and political embarrassment of having all this dirty laundry aired in open court. Federal prosecutors were clearly pushing for a deal. The testimony from Hunter's exes, the excruciating text messages, all of this could have been avoided.

I would have gone to jail either way.

And yet, despite all the criticism from Republicans that the law enforcement system has become a weapon against their side, Biden's Justice Department just convicted the president's son. There aren't many countries in the world where you can imagine this happening.

In fact, that same Justice Department is now prosecuting two other prominent Democrats, Senator Bob Menendez and his gold bullion bribery case, and Representative Henry Cuellar.

In what must have been a tough psychological blow to Joe Biden, who went to Wilmington last night to be with his son, he essentially repeated a statement he made last week.

“I will accept the outcome of this case and continue to respect the judicial process while Hunter considers an appeal,” said the president, who says he has ruled out a pardon. He said he and his wife are “very proud of the man he is today.”

BIDEN'S MENTAL ACUITY QUESTIONED

Despite hours of announcements on cable news, Joe Biden did not address the issue even while addressing a gun safety forum, creating an awkward situation. But he wasn't going to give his detractors the comment they wanted.

You would think, given that Donald Trump is also a convicted felon – and I am not comparing the two cases – that he and his allies would let the media promote Hunter Biden's conviction. But not.

The press secretary for Trump's camp said that “this trial has been nothing more than a distraction from the real crimes of the Biden crime family, which has raised tens of millions of dollars from China, Russia and Ukraine. Joe's corrupt reign Biden on crime Biden The family will come to an end on November 5th and never again will a Biden sell out access to government for personal gain.”

So we've gone from Hunter Biden should be condemned immediately to this being a mere distraction. The felony firearm case has nothing to do with his father, who kept urging him to stay sober. The second, more serious criminal trial, for tax evasion, could include a limited parental role.

But the “Biden Crime Family” refrain points directly to the son of the then-vice president trading on his last name to acquire global businesses for which he was clearly not qualified. So there is a deliberate change of goal here.

Note that House Republicans, after months of investigation, failed to produce evidence that Joe Biden received a dime, even though he clearly used harmless calls and a couple of lunches to help his son generate business. Additionally, the committee's key source was accused of lying.

Special prosecutor David Weiss told reporters yesterday that the gun case shows that “no one is above the law.” But he also suggested that the government would not propose a harsher sentence than that applied to the average person.

One could argue that the case should have been started five years ago. But there's also the argument that he wouldn't have come forward against Hunter Jones at all.

These rare cases usually have to be linked to a felony, such as if the president's son used the illicitly obtained gun to rob a bank. (That's the argument Trump made: that he was facing a misdemeanor because he is the leading candidate for president.)

But Hunter owned the gun for 11 days before his lover threw it away.

The judge should sentence Hunter Biden around the time of the Democratic convention in August. And then comes the second trial. Bad timing for a notorious son who could have avoided this spectacle with a guilty plea.
