People calling 911 from the Verizon Wireless network were experiencing technical issues that prevented them from reaching Ventura County dispatchers, the Sheriff's Department said.
The problem was fixed at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, the department said.
“Our thanks to the dedicated teams at AT&T and Verizon for their quick action and collaboration to ensure our emergency services are back up and running smoothly,” the department said in the afternoon update.
A Ventura County sheriff's spokesman said Verizon customers who called 911 Tuesday morning were connected but could not hear the dispatchers who answered them.
The trouble began at 8:45 a.m., Sgt. Monica Smith said.
Verizon is one of the largest wireless carriers in the country, with more than 114 million subscribers.
