San Francisco 49ers rookie receiver Ricky Pearsall will miss the first four games of the season after being shot during a robbery attempt, but the first-round pick is already back at the team facility for work.

The NFL world held its breath after learning that Pearsall, who was drafted out of Florida in April, was shot in the chest during an attempted robbery near Union Square in downtown San Francisco on Saturday.

Fortunately, Pearsall was in stable condition once first responders arrived on scene and was released from San Francisco General Hospital on Sunday.

“He and his family, along with the entire San Francisco 49ers organization, would like to thank the San Francisco Police Department, emergency medical services, doctors and staff at San Francisco General Hospital,” the team said in a statement.

Now, 49ers radio analyst Tim Ryan said Tuesday on KNBR that Pearsall was in the team gym working out alongside his teammates over Labor Day. Ryan divulged what the rookie told him and a few others about what he's going through right now.

“I talked to him yesterday. He was in the gym yesterday and he told me the whole story and what happened,” Ryan told Yahoo Sports. “Thank God it's not worse than it was and he was able to react the way he did in that split second.”

Pearsall's mother, Erin, said the bullet fired at her son went through his chest and exited through his back without hitting any vital organs.

“Update on my baby,” she began a Facebook post. “First of all, I want to thank GOD for protecting my baby. He is extremely lucky, GOD protected him. He was shot in the chest and the shot came out from his back. Thank GOD, it didn't hit his vital organs.

“He is in good spirits now,” she added. “Life is very precious, my friends. Please love each other. My son was saved today by the grace of GOD. Please pray for my baby.”

The suspect, a 17-year-old boy, was taken to the hospital along with Pearsall after Saturday's incident. A video on X-rated showed Pearsall walking toward an ambulance with paramedics.

While he's making a full recovery, Pearsall hopes to make an impact on a talented 49ers team entering his rookie year. He dealt with some nagging injuries during training camp that forced him to miss all three preseason games.
