Twenty students at an elementary school in California fell ill Tuesday after being exposed to tear gas and pepper spray that reached their campus.
The chemicals arrived at Portola Elementary School in San Bruno during a training exercise the San Francisco Sheriff's Office was conducting at the nearby San Bruno Jail, according to ABC 7.
The sheriff's office said it was conducting a training session inside the jail with chemical agents when tear gas from the training went out and reached the school, which is located about a mile away.
