One person was killed and two others were wounded when a gunman opened fire at a San Diego County dental office Thursday afternoon.
According to authorities, a 29-year-old suspect was arrested several hours after the incident.
The shooting took place shortly after 4 p.m. in the 400 block of North Magnolia Avenue in the eastern San Diego County city of El Cajon, according to authorities. There was no immediate information on a motive for the shooting.
Shortly after the incident, the El Cajon Police Department wrote in a post on social media that it was an “active shooter event” in the community about 20 miles from downtown San Diego. Authorities identified Mohammed Abdulkareem as a suspect and said he should be considered “armed and dangerous.”
Emergency scanner reports said the shooting took place at a dental facility, and Sgt. Eric Thornton confirmed to The Times that one person died from his injuries and two others were injured.
Abdulkareem was seen after the shooting driving a U-Haul truck with Arizona license plates. Police provided an image of the vehicle that was captured by license plate reading software at the scene of the shooting.
The suspect was arrested later Thursday by San Diego Police Department officers, according to emergency scanner reports. The El Cajon Police Department confirmed that Abdulkareem was in police custody, but there was no immediate information regarding his arrest.
