An expectant mother greatly upset her husband when she expressed her displeasure at the name Elizabeth.

Wanting to know if her reasons for vetoing the potential nickname were valid, the woman took to the popular Reddit discussion forum Am I The A**hole to gather outside opinions.

She explained that her husband leaned toward the name Elizabeth for their daughter in the brainstorming discussions they had before her birth. With two months to go until her birth, the Redditor isn't stressed about deciding on a name yet, but she's sure that Elizabeth isn't an option she's willing to consider.

“I’m frustrated that he’s mentioned the name 10 different times and I’ve said no every time,” the original author confessed, “until I finally told him that Elizabeth was on the official no-list and could not be included again for consideration.”

For her, the name is “overrated”, “boring” and “overused”. Of course, her partner doesn’t agree at all.

The woman said: “He considers Elizabeth to be one of the best names and even went so far as to tell me that no one could dislike the name, which I quickly corrected.”

To see what others thought, the Reddit user's husband took a poll on social media and the results brought him a lot of support, especially from the couple's family members.

“A lot of our family members apparently love the name,” the Redditor noted. “I know it’s popular for a reason, but I never really liked it.”

Her husband's compromise was to let the redditor choose from the plethora of nicknames associated with Elizabeth. Still, she wasn't happy.

The writer said: “I told him that if that was the case, all the girls would be called Elizabeth. But I told him that doesn’t happen, so clearly there are other options.”

In her husband's eyes, the redditor is being “unreasonable” and “petty” by not agreeing to use the name he loves. However, he explains: “The classic and timeless characteristics of the name are also unattractive.”

When asked who they thought was wrong, many readers sided with the Reddit user. They argued that the focus shouldn't be on that particular name. As a couple and co-parents, they should want to agree on one that they both like.

“Your husband doesn’t have to agree with the reasons you don’t like the name, he just has to respect your preference and move on,” one supporter wrote, while another added: “When choosing a name for a child, both parents must love the name and be on board with it. If either parent disagrees for ANY reason, the name is out.”

Some followers thought the Reddit user's husband was being manipulative by conducting a poll on social media.

One person commented: “He didn’t really think it would change your mind, he thought it would put social pressure on you to give in regardless of your opinion.”

“Your husband is showing you such incredible disrespect that I find it worrying. His opinions are valid,” commented one outspoken reader.
