In an Instagram story, Arundhati De-Sheth shared a photo of the original necklace and wrote: “Going to Cannes in France, home of Cartier and then wearing a poor, shoddy, sad, ugly copy of a historical piece. “He supposedly represents our nation and pretends to be wearing something real.” She tagged Rautela's team and wrote: “Looks like you haven't done any homework. We are a land of the most special treasures and jewels that she could have worn in her place; This is shameless and very sad.”

Urvashi Rautela's team did not clarify whether the necklace was fake or real. While speaking to Brut India, Rautela dismissed the criticism and hinted that the necklace was real. She said: “I wasn't aware of this, but I knew that Monica Bellucci wore it in 2006 at Cannes. “I had absolutely no idea about it.”
