The Princess of Wales is in hospital after undergoing successful abdominal surgery, Kensington Palace announced.
Kate, 42, was admitted to the London Clinic on Tuesday for the planned procedure which is said to be routine.
The operation was carried out successfully on Tuesday and the future queen is expected to remain in hospital for ten to fourteen days before returning home.
The Palace refused to confirm why Kate was being treated, but confirmed that the condition was not cancerous.
He also said that the Princess of Wales would like to apologize for postponing upcoming engagements.
“Based on current medical advice, he is unlikely to return to public duties until after Easter,” a statement read.
A Kensington Palace spokesperson said: “The Princess of Wales appreciates the interest this statement will generate.
“She hopes the public understands her desire to maintain as much normality as possible for her children; and her desire that her personal medical information remain private.
“Therefore, Kensington Palace will only provide updates on Her Royal Highness's progress when there is significant new information to share.
“The Princess of Wales would like to apologize to all those affected for having to postpone her upcoming engagements.
“He hopes to reintegrate as many as possible, as soon as possible.”
The princess is likely to spend between two and three months recovering and is not expected to return to public duties until after Easter, based on current medical advice, the Palace said.
The Prince of Wales will not undertake official duties while his wife is in hospital and during the immediate period following her return home.
The heir to the throne William will combine being at Kate's side with caring for his children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, and has postponed several engagements.
