The so-called 'Meghan effect' has struck once again: the Duchess of Sussex's entire polo outfit sold out in a matter of days.
She attended the 2018 Audio Polo Challenge in Ascot, Berkshire, over the weekend to show her support for her husband Harry and opted for smart casual attire for the occasion.
The 36-year-old wore a gingham shirt dress paired with leather sandals and a white panama hat, all of which were unavailable for purchase due to increased demand.
Opting for a mix of luxury and haute couture design, Markle's £299 summer dress is designed by modern New York label Shoshanna.
The Ashland Gingham Belted Sleeveless Midi Dress is a flattering off-the-shoulder dress with an A-line silhouette, but you might have to wait a while to get your hands on one.
According to Amazon's website, the dress has completely sold out and there is currently no indication of when it will be back in stock.
Likewise, Markle's straw hat and sandals are also selling out.
The £47 Madewell x Biltmore panama hat, which features a sleek black ribbon, proved so popular it's listed as sold out, while its Grear sandals, designed by Sarah Flint, are sold out in the “Saddle Vachetta” colourway.
However, you can join a waitlist for this particular shade or pick it up in eight other color options.
This isn’t the first time Markle has sparked a marketing frenzy. Similar to the “Kate effect,” which refers to the panic fans feel when Kate Middleton steps out in an outfit, the Meghan effect has already seen outfits worn by the duchess sell out in a matter of minutes.
During a recent public appearance, Markle opted for a black “Jackie O” dress by the brand Black Halo. A spokesperson for the brand said The Independent“The dress sold out less than 10 hours after Meghan Markle wore it, and the brand had to work overtime to keep replenishing its stock.”
Similarly, during a visit to the studio of community radio station Reprezent in south London earlier this year, Markle wore a black Marks & Spencer jumper that sold out by 6pm that same day.
The Independent has contacted Amazon and Madewell for comment.
