Wiz Khalifa was arrested and charged in Romania on Saturday after allegedly smoking marijuana during his performance at the Beach Please! festival.
A video shared on social media shows the 36-year-old rapper, whose real name is Cameron Jibril Thomaz, being led off stage after his performance, where he allegedly lit up a joint during the third day of the festival. Recreational use of cannabis is illegal in Romania and Khalifa was charged with illegal drug possession, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
“The Constanţa Territorial Service has ordered the opening of criminal proceedings against the accused (US citizen), who is being investigated for the crime of illegal possession of dangerous drugs. It has been established that during a concert held within the framework of a music festival held in the Costineşti complex, in the Constanţa district, he possessed more than 18 grams of cannabis (dangerous drug) and consumed (on stage) another quantity of cannabis in the form of a homemade cigarette,” according to the statement from the Romanian Directorate for the Investigation of Organized Crime and Terrorism, translated via Google Translate.
Khalifa was not identified as the “American citizen” in the official statement, but on Sunday, the rapper acknowledged the incident in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“Last night’s show was amazing. I didn’t mean to disrespect the country of Romania by lighting up a joint on stage. They were very respectful and let me go. I’ll be back soon. But next time I won’t be smoking a huge joint.”
.
Later that Sunday, Khalifa seemed unfazed by the incident in Romania, sharing a video on his Instagram of him smoking in front of the Eiffel Tower, with the caption, “I’m French now.” The rapper has also been making headlines recently for a happier reason, announcing on Instagram on Father’s Day that he and his girlfriend, Aimee Aguilar, were expecting their first baby together.
