Islamabad: The trial of the Wazirabad shooting incident, an attempt to murder against former Prime Minister Imran Khan, concluded without the testimony of his most crucial witness: Khan himself.

His absence of the witness position has caused generalized speculations, especially given his public accusations against the senior government and military officials for orchestrating the attack.

Muhammad Naveed, the main defendant in the case, was sentenced on April 26 by an anti -terrorism court in Gujranwala to two terms of life for the murder of the supporter of PTI Moazzam Gondal and for hurting many others during the attack of November 3, 2022. In particular, while Khan suffered gunshot wounds, Naved was not condemned for directly damaging the former prime minister.

A detailed judgment issued by the Court sheds light on Khan's constant refusal to register his statement, despite the repeated efforts of the Prosecutor's Office.

The court indicated that the trial lasted mainly due to Khan's reluctance to testify. He was summoned several times and offered him the option of appearing through a video link, but the judicial registry shows that every time, Khan cited the lack of availability of his legal advisor as the reason for his non -participation.

“In this sense, the letters and requests of the Prosecutor's Office are in the registry,” says the sentence. “But said witness [Imran Khan] Demonstrated reluctance, lack of will and deliberate avoidance when registering his statement before this court. “

The sentence also states that despite “all agitated efforts” and repeated applications from the Prosecutor's Office for the Court to take coercive measures, Khan's statement could not be acquired. Finally, the Court declared it a “ceded witness” that closed the case of the Prosecutor's Office without its testimony.

The Court criticized Khan's conduct, stating: “The trial of this high profile case was delayed due to the behavior of the prosecutor's last witness, namely Ahmad Khan Niazi, which has been put in the registry.”

The incident occurred during a PTI Rally in Wazirabad, where Khan was shot in his leg. In its consequences, Khan publicly accused the then Minister of First Shehbaz Sharif, the former Interior Minister, Rana Sanaullah, and the senior military officer Faisal Naseer to consign him to kill him. He claimed to have recorded a video that appointed them, which will be released in case of his death.

While Naveed was convicted of terrorism and murder, two coacked, Tayyab Jahangir Butt and Waqas were acquitted due to the lack of evidence. Together with the life imprisonment, Naveed received additional prison periods ranging between three and five years for hurting four other people and received a fine of RS500,000.
