Federal Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar has said that more big fish will be caught following the arrest of former spy chief Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hamid as the scope of the investigation will be widened.

The Army announced earlier this week that former Director General of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) has been arrested by the Army on allegations of land grabbing and snatching valuables from the owner of a private housing society, and a General Field Court Martial case has been initiated against him.

Three other retired officers have been taken into military custody after Faiz's arrest, the army's media wing said on Thursday.

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad today (Saturday), Tarar said the army has its own accountability mechanism and the recent arrests were made after transparent investigations.

“Whether it is Saqib or Nisar, the scope of the investigation will widen as developments unfold following the arrest of General Faiz,” the minister said, referring to former Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar, who was accused of favouring Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan.

Recently, rumours on social media claimed that former CJP Nisar has fled to London and could be arrested in the larger probe related to the arrest of the former ISI chief, but the former top judge dismissed such speculations.

Talking with Geo newsNisar denounced the recent spate of reports on social media that his absence could be linked to the arrest of General Faiz and confirmed that he is in London on a planned annual leave.

Accusing the PTI of hatching conspiracies in collusion with the detained former spy chief, Tarar said the cricketer-turned-politician had fostered politics of chaos, anarchy and division in the country.

“In collusion with Faiz Hamid, he [Khan] They conspired to spread unrest and worked against the integrity of the country.

“All these people were involved in the efforts of the PTI founder to spread chaos and anarchy in the country while the former prime minister was making manipulative policies through nexus,” he said.

The minister said Khan was the mastermind behind the plot against the country's solidarity and that the people arrested recently were his companions.

He further asked who brought back the terrorists to the country, saying that the founding chairman of the PTI supported the resettlement of the Tehreek-e-Taliban (TTP) militants in the country.

Tarar said that those who harmed the peace of the country would face their fate and would also be brought to justice, regardless of their status.

He said that like the Pakistan Army, other institutions should also start the process of self-accountability.

On August 12, the army said Gen Faiz had been arrested as there were “multiple instances of violation” of the Army Act by him after his retirement in December 2022. “The process of General Field Court Martial has been initiated and Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hamid has been taken into military custody,” it added.

The military said it acted against the senior officer in accordance with orders of the Supreme Court, which last year called for a probe against him after a land development company called Top City filed a petition, alleging that he had acquired ownership of some properties along with his brother and had even blackmailed the company owner.
