Beyoncé finally gifted all of Jolene's fans with a unique spin on the '70s hit in March.
Unlike Dolly Parton's 1973 classic that delves into a woman's vulnerability that makes her beg to protect her love, Beyoncé's lyrics take an assertive tone toward any potential threat to their relationship.
Beyoncé, who has been married to JAY-Z since 2008, tells imaginary character Jolene that she has the full support of her man, with whom she “has been deeply in love for 20 years.”
Parton was thrilled to see the performance even though she found Beyoncé's turn in the song “bold” and “unexpected.”
The song was also a hit with fans, who found Beyoncé's touch to be quite majestic. “This version of jolene “Sounds more like a new version of 'You're not woman enough to take my man,'” one fan wrote on YouTube.
The comments section was also filled with hilarious responses to Beyoncé's reinterpretation, with one YouTube user joking: “They've been dragging Jolene's name around for decades and we never heard her version.”
Some even speculated how Jolene herself might react to the performance. “Jolene sitting in the nursing home wondering what she did to Beyoncé,” one user said.
