The royal titles of King Charles, Prince William and Kate Middleton are under threat after anti-monarchy group called for the senior king's royal titles to be removed.
According GB News, The Republic's chief executive, Graham Smith, argued that if the UK were to elect an independent head of state, the Royal Family titles, including those of Charles, William and Catherine, should be removed.
“The Republic is about being equal citizens,” argued the leader of the anti-monarchy group, calling for the abolition of the privileges and obligations of the monarchy.
And he added: “It is about finishing that long process of evolution that we have gone through since the 17th century, where we had to fight tooth and nail against the Monarch and against the agrarian classes to achieve democracy and in a certain way we have stagnated and a “The republic consists of finishing that work so that we are genuine citizens, not subjects.”
Smith was then asked if members of the royal family would lose their titles if the United Kingdom elected an independent head of state, to which he replied: “In a republic like that, obviously you can't have aristocratic titles and titles real.”
“So Charles would be Charles Windsor and he will be a citizen like anyone else, he will pay taxes like anyone else and he will be free to stand for election or not, or just go away and live a nice, luxurious life.
“He will still be very rich but he will be free from the obligations of royalty, free from royal titles and will have obligations to pay taxes.”
The outlet revealed that if the royals were to lose their titles, they would no longer be called Their Royal Highness and all prince and princess titles would be removed.
