Selena Gomez was surprised. Really, not as the astonishment Zoë Kravitz pretended in an episode of the Golden Globes of “The Studio”, pretending the disbelief on the podium when he knew all the time he was going to win.
When “only murders in the building” won the prize of the screen actors guild for the comedy series in February, Gomez could only say one word: “That? Martin Short and Steve Martin, the other posters of the program, were not in the room (“They don't care,” he joked Gomez), leaving his co -star to handle the acceptance speech for his lonely.
“Wait … we never won,” he began. “This is so strange.”
If a series that wins its first important prize for its fourth season is strange (and it is), prepare for some strange days before this Emmy season. There is one year without being first hour in the categories of comedy and drama (apart from Jean Smart, which is in a Julia Louis-Dreyfus style race for “hacks”), a year full of stacked alignments, a year that could provide the opportunity of another jail “That? or two.
That, after a long series of ceremonies in which a handful of shows dominated the night (“baby reinde”, “Shōgun”, “succession”, is a long list), could it be … fun? Or at least not so much FAIT consumes as we have seen in the recent past.
It is true that we had a surprise last year, with the “hacks” winning comedy series about “The Bear”, the program that most people (hand lifted) thought they would win. In retrospect, the result should have been clear how the day. “The Bear” was shot down by “How is this series a comedy?” Chatter and his third unequal season, which fell while the voters were considering the merit of their second, which contained two episodes (“fishes” and “forks”) that are as good as anything that was broadcast on television is decade.
Now it seems that no one is taking “The Bear” seriously, although he won three of the four comedy and Emmy action awards for directing last year. (“The fish” were undeniable). Wouldn't it be fun if the fourth season of “The Bear”, which falls on June 25, is so good that he erases voters' doubts about season 3 and catapults the program to people's hearts? (“That?”)

“The Bear”, at least, will stand out in a heavy field in comedies about Hollywood, a perennial favorite among the creatives. “Hacks” makes Deborah Vance of Smart finally presenting his night interview program and fighting Ava (Hannah Einbinder) for his tone, among many, many other conflicts. The newcomer “The Studio” sends the personal importance of Hollywood, while making a rather good case for the entertainment value, even in its lowest form (“Duhpocalypse!”). And the gang of “only murders in the building” went to the west to take a meeting on a film based on its successful podcast. We should all be very lucky that Eugene Levy interpreted us someday.
With all that, in addition to the configuration of comedies of the city of Los Angeles “nobody wants this” and “shrink”, how does “Abbott Elementary” feel like something less an explosion of fresh air, even if they put a school game at the end of the season? There is also the charming and moving moving of Michael Schur, “A man on the inside”, in which Ted Danson survey in a retirement house in San Francisco and conquers La Soledad, a heroic feat that rivals anything you find in a Marvel movie.
Meanwhile, in the dramatic series, “Shōgun” won last year, parachute in the category of limited series when FX approved for another season or two. If “Shōgun” would not have moved, would we be talking about the possibilities of repeating “slow horses”? Or how crazy was it that “the crown” won again? Thanks to the delays caused by the strikes, the 2024 drama slate was the thinnest since “Quincy, I” wandered the streets of the, keeping us safe.

This year, the drama categories have returned to all their strength with new seasons of “Severance”, “The White Lotus” and “The Last of Us” that arrive and the former winner “Squid Game” also return. The last one could not recover the mojo of his first season, since the repetition of his stylized carnage turned the series into a victim of capitalism that he criticized bluntly. Tell him.
Instead, we have “The Pitt”, another series about people pushed to the breakdown, offering a vivid and heartbreaking representation of an emergency medical system in crisis. Doctors are a difficult group to please (see that episode of “The Studio” that manages to make them even more insuffor. The despair portrayed in this program feels painfully true.
I loved so much “the Pitt” that I am tempted to say that all Emmys should win. But that would change the “compensation”, which requires another career in a corporate world Run Amok, detailing it in a way that are much more disturbing than anything in the last season of “squid game”. I don't know if my “Innie” or “outie” terrified more, probably because today, who can notice the difference? Simply mix one of those pineapple straps “special Lotus” special and let me float down.
Once again, there is much to appreciate, and that is before including another exciting season of “slow horses” and the newcomer “Paradise”, a loopy thriller who wonders if it was worth surviving an apocalypse if we would have to cover with Elon Musk. Personally, I prefer to be on in the waiting room of “The Pitt”.
