The director of the iconic romantic comedy opens up about the hit film's original ending

During a candid meeting with CNN's Chris WallaceRob Reiner, who directed the iconic film, lifted the lid on the original story of the favorite romantic comedy.
The 76-year-old director kicked off the conversation by saying, “The original ending of the movie we had was that Harry and Sally didn't get together.”
In addition, he stated about the sad ending: “It was going to be the two of them seeing each other after years, talking and then walking away.”
That said, Rob revealed that the new happy ending was inspired by events in his own life.
“Because I had been married for 10 years, I had been single for 10 years and I couldn't imagine how I was going to be with anyone,” he said, “and that gave rise to When Harry Met Sally,” he continued.
Referring to his wife, whom Rob met during the filming of the film, the director stated: “I met my wife Michele, who I have been married to for 35 years, I met her while we were making the film and I changed the ending.”
The interviewer asked in response: “So we owe that touching ending to Michele?”
“That's right,” he declared in conclusion.
