  • ISPR says the operation was launched in response to the alleged presence of terrorists.
  • Sanitisation efforts are underway to locate other terrorists, ISPR says.
  • “Forces determined to eliminate the threat of terrorism from the country.”

Security forces killed three terrorists during an intelligence-led operation in Razmak area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), the Inter-Services Public Relations Bureau (ISPR) said on Friday.

“On 16 August 2024, security forces conducted an intelligence-based operation in the general area of Razmak, North Waziristan district regarding the alleged presence of Khwarij“the military's media wing said in a statement.

“During the development of the operation there was an intense exchange of fire between the troops and khwarijas a result of which, three Khwarij of Fitna al Khawarij were sent to hell, while one Jarji “was injured.”

Weapons and ammunition were also recovered from the terrorists, who were actively involved in terrorist activities against security forces as well as targeted killings of innocent civilians, he added.

The statement added that the sanitation process in the area is underway to eliminate any other terrorists present in the area, while security forces are determined to end the threat of “khawarij” and the country's terrorism.

A day earlier, seven terrorists were killed and five others injured in an IBO attack carried out in KP district of Kurram.

In another action carried out by security forces in South Waziristan last week, four soldiers embraced martyrdom while six terrorists were killed during the exchange of fire.

Pakistan has seen a surge in terrorism since the Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan in 2021. Most of the terrorist incidents have been reported in the border provinces with the neighbouring country: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.

According to a report by the Center for Research and Security Studies (CRSS), during the second quarter of this year, the country recorded 380 deaths and 220 injuries related to violence between civilians, security personnel and criminals.

The report said these casualties were the result of 240 incidents related to terrorist attacks and counter-terrorist operations.

In this context, in June this year the federal cabinet approved Operation Azm-e-Istehkam, a renewed national anti-terrorist campaign following the recommendations of the Higher Central Committee under the National Action Plan to eradicate terrorism.
