Robert De Niro remembers his first meeting with Martin Scorsese 50 years ago

Robert De Niro and Martin Scorsese recently spoke about their partnership that dates back 50 years.

The lethal actor-director duo is known in Hollywood for their strong and deep-rooted professional and personal friendship.

In a new number for PEOPLE Magazine, Robert recalled that he has known Martin since they were teenagers.

“We met at a Christmas dinner after I saw Who calls? [at My Door], and I said, 'That was a really fantastic movie.' He said, 'I have the script.' AND bad streets at that time it was called season of the witchand that's how it all started,” shared the 80-year-old actor.

For his part, Martin praised Robert's versatility to take on any role he wants to play.

“When Bob commits to a role, he starts doing research, asking questions about absolutely everything, from what the character dresses to what he eats for breakfast,” said the 81-year-old director.

He continued: “At this point, I treasure the sheer longevity, shared experience and knowledge,” he says. “Trust. Love. And also the desire to explore together, to go further.”
