Rick Harrison blames border crisis for son's overdose death

Adam Harrison, one of three children of “Pawn Stars” reality personality Richard “Rick” Harrison, died in Las Vegas, a family representative said Saturday. He was 39 years old.

On Monday, Harrison, through his rep, told TMZ that his son had overdosed on fentanyl.

“Yes, I can confirm that Adam died from a fentanyl overdose. The fentanyl crisis in this country needs to be taken more seriously. It seems like it's just overstepping the boundaries and nothing is being done about it. We must do better.”

Harrison family spokesperson Laura Herlovich confirmed that Adam Harrison died Friday and asked for privacy for the family as they grieve.

“Our family is extremely saddened by Adam's death,” the statement said. “We ask for privacy as we mourn the loss of him.”

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported that police were investigating the death of Adam Harrison, which was first reported by TMZ. Although “Pawn Stars” introduced Rick Harrison's oldest son, Corey, Adam Harrison did not appear in the series.

“You will always be in my heart! I love you Adam,” Rick Harrison wrote in a tribute on Instagram over the weekend.

In 2023, drug overdose deaths surpassed 112,000 for the first time in the country's history. With its staggering death toll, according to a December NPR report, the U.S. drug crisis has eclipsed epidemics of the past, including the crack cocaine crisis of the 1980s and the prescription opioid epidemic of the United States. eighties.

According to NPR, public health experts predict that debates over how to address the crisis will increase and become especially polarizing during an election year.

“Democratic and Republican politicians have promised to stop or dramatically reduce fentanyl smuggling from Mexico to the United States, but analysts tell NPR that no one has proposed a plan that would achieve that goal,” the outlet reported.
