Queen Elizabeth II reportedly had concerns about Meghan Markle's career aspirations when she married Prince Harry.
Her Majesty, who has reportedly allowed the Duchess of Sussex to continue her acting career, has received assurances from Meghan about her readiness for the royal role.
Speaking about their private conversation, royal author Gyles Brandreth explains: “She was worried about her future happiness. At their first meeting, the Queen told Meghan: 'You can continue being an actress if you want – it is your profession, after all.'”
She added: “But Meghan was up for royal duty and of course the Queen was delighted with that. She was particularly delighted with the enthusiasm Meghan showed for the Commonwealth and the commitment she made to the Queen to do 'whatever she thinks we should do for the Commonwealth'.”
The author continued: “She promised the Queen that when it came to the Commonwealth, she would not let Her Majesty down. The Queen liked Meghan and told many people so.”
