Princess Diana admits that the king's body shaming triggered her illness

Princess Diana was terribly ashamed of her health diagnosis resulting from public life.

The former Princess of Wales admitted to her close friend Anne Allan that she suffers from bulimia in a brutal confession.

Recalling her conversation with Diana, Anne noted: “She lowered her head and, unable to look me in the eye, said, 'I'm so embarrassed, Anne, but I need to tell you that I suffer from bulimia,'” Allan wrote.

“I told her that understanding the illness was the way forward, and added that finding ways not to judge herself would come with time,” Allan wrote.

“Diana explained that her bulimia had started when she started attending important events, particularly dinner parties where she had to sit down to eat,” Allan said. “Meeting so many people terrified her and the feeling that she was being judged for every move she made, how she looked or what she said made her feel totally inadequate.”

“The bulimia started the week after we got engaged and it would take us almost a decade to get over it,” Diana had said in a recording. “My husband put his hand on my waist and said, 'Oh, a bit chubby here, aren't you? ' and that triggered something in me, and the Camilla thing.”

Princess Diana finally separated from King Charles in 1993, four years after which she died in a car accident.
