Prince William maps out Princess Charlotte's future for a scaled-back monarchy

Prince William's decision to follow in the footsteps of King Charles III's scaled-back monarchy is the best option, an expert says.

Her Majesty, who is committed to ecology and minimalism, is advancing the royal agenda through fewer working members.

Royal expert Jennie Bond tells OK!: “I still think a smaller Royal Family IS definitely the right model for the future.

He added: “It is in line with most European monarchies and is sensitive to the constant criticism that the royal family costs taxpayers too much.”

“Adding new working royals to the payroll will only exacerbate those criticisms. I think the model William has experimented with is the answer: bringing in his cousins here and there (for example at garden parties) to liven things up a bit.”

“This makes these occasions even more special and allows those cousins to get on with their lives as they wish, without the restrictions of the royal diary.”

“That's why I think the King and William are absolutely right to be determined to keep the core of the working royals as a small, tight unit that can be held accountable to the public purse.”

This comes at a time when Prince William remains steadfast in his desire to follow in his father's footsteps in running the monarchy.

Richard Eden of the Daily Mail reveals: “He told me: 'When the senior members of the family retire, His Royal Highness will not invite anyone else to become a working royal.'”

Eden further discussed Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis: “It remains to be seen whether he will want his two youngest children to be working royals.”
