Prince Harry is not as enthusiastic as he once was about the Pat Tillman Award following the backlash.
The Duke of Sussex will receive the famous award for his contribution to the Invictus Games at the ESPY Awards in Los Angeles on July 11.
However, the announcement caused nervousness among the public, including the late war hero's mother, Mary Tillman.
“I am surprised that they would choose such a controversial and divisive individual to receive the award,” he said of the award named after the former NFL star who left his sports career to join the U.S. military.
Now, sources told the Telegraph that Harry was “stunned” by the reaction.
“It’s very difficult to accept criticism of the Duke of Sussex for anything to do with his military record and his work with veterans. Harry’s legacy at Invictus, the things he has achieved, that is his real passion,” they said.
The source continued: “This is the space she really feels at home in, it’s something she cares a lot about. The backlash certainly took the shine off the award.”
