Edith Wharton's unfinished novel of the same name on five rich American women during the golden age received prestigious TV treatment with this drama created by Katherine Jakeways. The series depends on marriage proposals, romantic ideals, the pressure of the status and the dangers and the promises of money. But no secondary plot made him more exciting than the budding romance between Mabel Elmsworth (Josie Totah) and Honora Marble (Mia Threapleton). Season 2 looks what happens after Nan (Kristine Froseth) says: “I do it”, pushing history beyond a happy assumption forever. And fortunately, Mabel and Honora are configured here to be out and proud of her love: “The most important person in our lives,” Mabel tells her lover: “They are the other.” It is such a beautiful and radical feeling in the 1870s as in 2025.
