PPP's Sarfraz Bugti nominated 'unopposed' for Balochistan CM

Pakistan People's Party (PPP) candidate Sarfraz Ahmed Bugti has been nominated unopposed for the post of Balochistan CM as no other candidate has filed nomination papers till the deadline expires at 5 pm on Friday. late, according to Balochistan Assembly Secretary Tahir Shah Kakar.

However, the assembly will hold polls for the CM elections tomorrow (Saturday) as Bugti still needs the support of 33 legislators despite being nominated unopposed, Kakar added.

The Bilawal-led party went ahead to form its government in Balochistan.

Bugti, former caretaker home minister and former provincial information minister, submitted four nomination papers for the post of Balochistan chief minister to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) office.

The politician had resigned as caretaker home minister in December last year and joined the Bilawal-led party.

The candidate for the province's top political post has been proposed by the PPP and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders including Nawab Sanaullah Khan Zehri and Sardar Sarfaraz Chakar Domki.

According to the preliminary results of the 2024 national elections, the Nawaz-led party occupied the first position after winning 11 seats in the Balochistan Assembly, equivalent to the seats of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), while Bilawal The party led by the Republican Party was victorious with 10 seats.

The PML-N and the PPP formed a post-election alliance and decided to support each other to form governments at the center and the provinces.

However, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, emir of the JUI-F and former ally of the ruling party, announced that he would not be part of any government in protest against the results of the February 8 elections, despite multiple attempts by former allies to gain their trust.

Following the alliance and winning majority in Sindh, PPP announced the formation of its government in Balochistan with the support of PML-N, Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) and Awami National Party (ANP) as its main coalition partner in the province.
